One Short Review
Now that “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” has gone from municipal marketing slogan to national organizing principle, the success of this is best understood not as a tribute to its virtue as comedic romp but rather to its power as allegory–and prophecy. Moral hazard? It is as nothing compared to the salvific majesty of the do-over. And so it is written; America, Fuck Yeah!

The Hangover: And a nerd shall lead them
You are missing the hell out of the point, KMG; and the point is Rabelais, or even a bit Wilde-ish. *Everything* that happens in this brilliant fever-dream of a comedy is unanticipated, disruptive, inverted: the whole flick is weirdness built on inexplicabilty; it’s all left turns. When the lads, for example, investigate the thumping in their car’s trunk, we the viewers and they the characters could not have anticipated being beaten half to death by a naked Asian with a tire iron. (Although Confucius did in fact have a saying about such matters: “What happens in the Forbidden City is forbidden to leave the Forbidden City. Obviously.”)Dunno about moral hazard: every single character in this flick is thoroughly punished and held to account for his idiotic behaviour. Think on it, son. Hey — am I missing an eyebrow…?
Apatow films aren’t all about the filth - not sure how you come to that hypothesis. His best directorial film, Knocked Up, has a a couple raunchy moments, but its theme of a Peter Pan type eventually having to grow up and accept responsibility for his decisions is a good theme, and it was the scarce movie that most male and female could enjoy together, neither chick-flick nor gross-a-thon. Alot of his other movies treads similar ground. I love raunch, and I wish there were more of it out there - the world needs more teenage sex comedies in these depressing times
